Why does adhesive leak from the bottom of the cartridge during injection?
Leakage from the bottom of the cartridge is a relatively common issue observed during installation or testing. The causes are often related to the adhesive quality, the application method, or the dispensing tools being used. When leakage occurs, it not only delays the work but can also result in material waste, contamination of the dispensing gun, and even compromise the anchoring quality.
Fortunately, most of these problems can be prevented with proper preparation and correct operation. Below are several common reasons:
Defective Cartridge Seal
The bottom of an injection chemical anchor cartridge is typically sealed with a plug cap or welding process. If the seal is incomplete or damaged, leakage may occur from the bottom when pressure is applied.
Improper Caulking Gun Alignment
Using a dispenser that does not match the cartridge size (e.g., a 345ml gun with a 380ml cartridge) can prevent the plunger from fully contacting the piston. This misalignment may cause pressure to escape, forcing adhesive out through the bottom seal.
Damaged or Aged Cartridge
Cartridges that have been stored for too long, or exposed to moisture, heat, or deformation, may develop cracks or weakened areas. During dispensing, this can result in cartridge rupture and adhesive leakage.
Excessive or Rapid Pressure
Applying excessive force or dispensing too quickly may exceed the cartridge’s pressure tolerance, leading to bottom seal leakage or even cartridge bursting.
Substandard or Non-Original Products
Low-quality or non-genuine cartridges often have insufficient wall thickness or weak sealing, which are more likely to cause leakage issues.
Key Tips for Chemical Anchor Dispensing
Before starting any anchoring work, always ensure the dispensing gun matches the cartridge size and check the integrity of the cartridge seal. Keep the dispenser clean and well-maintained. During application, apply steady and consistent pressure—avoid sudden excessive force or accelerated dispensing. We also recommend choosing products with verified quality standards and storing cartridges properly, away from high temperatures or humid conditions, to maintain product reliability.
